On 29 March Golden Lane residents came together for our first Action Day. The main focus of the event was to take an audit of the external parts of the estate and to create a report, an online map and a basis for further discussion (a date for follow up meeting to be confirmed soon – check events listings).
The information will be used to feed in to the new repairs company, to assist the work of the new team of Common Councillors, to look at areas for improvement or greening the estate, and encourage repairs and recycling.
It was also a chance to find out more about our resident lead events group GLEE and the newly forming Golden Lane Archive, help form a working group to look into Right to Manage, or just hang out at the community café!
estate audit report
More than 35 residents took part and through photos and descriptions, a catalogue of problems has been revealed. Pictures were catalogued under the following headings:
- Broken windows
- Ligt fittings
- Paving
- Paintwork
- Walls and ceilings
- Places that could be better
- Places for repair and recycling
- Places that could be used differently / better
From the many photos taken, fifty have been chosen to illustrate some of the problems affecting people living on the estate which you can see in the report below, and to accompany the report there is an interactive map showing the detailed comments that were made.

and just a few photos to give you an idea of the findings…
right to manage
After the event, our neighbour Pablo Abellan attended one of Peta Caine’s (Assistant Director, Housing) senior management team surgeries and talked to her about the resident interest in Right to Manage and involvement in estate management issues. These would include gardening, cleaning, guest rooms, sheds, garages, etc…
They discussed how to increase resident input on how these tasks are managed by the Estate Office and creating a working group through GLERA that would work closely with the Estate Office to achieve maximum efficiency and value for money around these local services.
