
Hatfield Podium Works
Last week GLERA organised a resident briefing with VolkerLaser’s Project Manager, Ehsan Fathiazar, and CoL Project Manager, Dean Elsworth, who explained:
- the reason for the project
- how we can get across the estate
- how the site will be accessed
- where the site facilities and storage will be
- how they will be dealing with noisy work
Below the key points from the meeting. Their communications consultant (CommComm UK) have promised an update.

PROGRAMME
- Site set up starts Monday 24 November
- Christmas shut down 23 December to 5 January
- The project runs until April 2026
ACCESS
- UPDATE: Since contractors have been on site they find they can now keep North South access from under Hatfield across the estate open for much of the project. There will be a couple of weeks in February when this will no longer be the case
- There will be 2 phases to make sure that the East West access is maintained
- For 2 weeks in February SRPC will need to be accessed through the allotments
- Access to the allotments will be via Basterfield service road gate – a key box and key will be provided
- The children’s playground will be closed for the duration UPDATE: contractors are now trying to find away around this
NOISY WORKS
- Scaffolding will be erected along the line of the grass and outside the leisure centre to carry a moving roof to protect the works (2-10 Dec will be noisy)
- The noisiest work (breaking up the concrete) will take about 3 weeks in total from the end of December into January.
- The area will be fenced off and there will be acoustic screens around the work when its noisy
WORKS
- Project is to waterproof roof of Leisure centre and address levels outside the sports hall so that water no longer ponds
- The waterproofing product will have a 15 year guarantee
- All paving slabs will be lifted, numbered and stored on the grass area
SERVICES
- Site accommodation will be in underground carpark
- Site storage will be at the end of Basterfield Service Road
- They will be using electrical equipment where possible and recharging them overnight at the leisure centre
COMMUNICATIONS
- There will be 2 site noticeboards with information about the works and the contact numbers of the PM and site supervisor. If there is an issue call them in the first instance
- They will be advising about when things are happening and they are looking at having a weekly email update and notices on all the notice boards
