Towards the end of October posters appeared on the house block notice boards – see below along with the text transcribed. Summary as provided by CoL:
- Lighting (Crescent House Soffits): Works are due to start on site in the next few weeks. The new LED fittings will improve energy efficiency, reduce glare, and provide a warmer light colour.
- Signage: Refurbishment of the cast aluminium entrance signs is almost complete – they’ve been cleaned, repainted, and reinstated.
- Temporary Lighting: The team is trialling replacement fittings to address failing lights and reduce light spill into residents’ homes.
- Lighting Design Framework: The framework has been reviewed following feedback from Resident Liaison Groups. A follow-up session with residents is planned to review the final version.
SIGNAGE
The cast aluminium signage works are almost complete. Original signs were removed and sensitively cleanes to remove the flaking paint, oxidisation, salts and dirt. Once cleaned, new hard wearing black pain was applied , and signwriters picked-out the lettering, before being re-installed.CRESCENT HOUSE SOFFIT LIGHTING
The replacement of the lighting to the soffits of Crescent House is due to start on site in the next few weeks. This work was approved as part of the Listed Building & Panning Application of Crescent House approved in December 2023 and has been brought forward due to funding becoming available from the climate action fund. The fittings being installed are show below [see poster], they are LED fittings which will lower energy consumption and increase longevity. Unwanted glare will be reduced and a warm (2700K) light colour has been specified
LIGHTING DESIGN FRAMEWORK
The Lighting Design Framework has been circulated to various parties for comments including GLERA, Resident Liaison Groups and the City of London Planning and Conservation team. The feedback has been reviewed, and where possible incorporated into the framework. We are planning a follow-up session with the resident working group to review the framework.
TEMPORARY LIGHTING
While the Lighting Design Framework provides for the upgrading of lighting across the site, in the short term the replacement of failing lights needs to be considered. Work is underway to provide a more sensitive approach to the maintenace of the existing lighting across the site. The design team have proposed a series of new lighting fittings which can be used to replace exisiting lights as they fail. The fittings have been selected to more effectively manage light spill, glare and overall lighting levels to reduce some of the recent issues where replacement fittings have caused increase lighting in residents homes.
We intend to install some examples of the new fittings in the coming weeks.
