CoL | local leisure access secured for golden lane users

Taken from @Home newsletter 16 APRIL 2026

We recently announced that Golden Lane Leisure Centre will close earlier than the originally planned December closure, following the news that Fusion Lifestyle, the company that runs the centre, has entered administration.

Working with the charitable social enterprise GLL, the City Corporation has secured alternative access to nearby facilities at Finsbury Leisure Centre and Ironmonger Row Baths. This includes swimming clubs, activities for older people, SEND sessions and fitness classes, and the City Corporation is also securing alternative local delivery of targeted activities for older residents and children with additional needs. GLL will work closely with the City Corporation to accommodate as many existing programmes and user groups as possible, subject to availability.

If you have an existing membership at Golden Lane Leisure Centre, your membership will be honoured at these two facilities for 12 months, and you will receive further information about this shortly, as well as details of how to book tennis and other sessional activities.

Golden Lane Leisure Centre Refurbishment
Golden Lane Leisure Centre is an important asset for all City residents, not only those living on the Golden Lane Estate. For many people, it is a much‑loved part of daily life, playing a key role in helping residents stay active, healthy and connected to their community.

The Grade II listed leisure centre, completed in the 1960s, is in need of extensive refurbishment. The City Corporation had planned to close the centre in December 2026 for a £10.4 million refurbishment. Due to the current circumstances, the centre will now need to close on Thursday 30 April.

The refurbishment will go ahead, and the leisure centre will reopen. The City Corporation recognises that the experience and knowledge of those who use the centre have a vital role to play in shaping a sustainable future for the centre. We will share further information as soon as possible on how residents and users can be involved.

The Chair of the Community & Children’s Services Committee will be holding a Town Hall meeting, which all City residents are welcome at, and details will be shared soon.
