Taken from CoL Housing Commonplace newsfeed posted 23 July 2025:
Thank you for your feedback. Below is a summary of the key comments and thoughts raised by residents in the consultation. As a result, we are taking a revised version of the strategy to Community and Children’s Services Committee in September, taking on board resident feedback. Alongside this, and in response to several of your comments, we will publish an action plan each year that will detail when things will happen, with clear timelines and updates provided. These will be published to residents.
What Needs More Clarity
- When things will happen – clearer timelines and updates.
- Who to contact – easy access to staff and departments.
- Visible improvements – better housing services, repairs, and estate upgrades.
- Staff training – especially in empathy, communication, and support for vulnerable residents.
What’s Missing
- Tackling anti-social behaviour – both inside and outside estates.
- Getting the basics right – like cleaning, repairs, and communication.
- Respectful communication – no more confusing or unhelpful messages.
- Funding transparency – how will improvements be paid for?
Concerns About Fairness
- Residents want to see core services delivered first.
- There’s a need for real accountability and better treatment of residents.
- Culture change must start from the top – not just in writing.
Other Suggestions
- Involve leaseholders in decisions about service charges.
- Use letters as well as digital updates to keep everyone informed.
- Share estate-specific data to better understand local needs.
- Improve staff responsiveness and training to rebuild trust.
