CoL voting lists
The City of London maintains two lists of voters for its residents:
- The Ward List: the list of people able to vote in Ward elections for their local Alders and Common Councillors. Registration for the Ward Lists takes place during the annual canvass each autumn.
- The Electoral Register: the list of people able to vote in national elections, referendums and the London Mayor and Greater London Assembly (GLA).
During the canvass the Electoral Registration Officer reviews and updates the information contained in both lists. Forms are sent to each residential address.
You can get on the Electoral Register at any time by applying online. You only need to register once – you don’t need to register separately for every election. You must register again if you’ve changed address, name or nationality.
The Electoral Commission has all the information you need for registering to vote, applying for a postal vote, voting by proxy, plus voter ID requirements which came in to play in May 2023.
