Nestled between the Ralph Perring Centre and Hatfield House the Golden Lane Estate allotments are run by a thriving community of Golden Baggers. This little oasis began as a food-growing project in 2010 using 20 one-tonne builders’ bags on the unused site of the former nursery playground. Thanks to an award from the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ scheme in 2016 these were replaced with 42 raised meter square wooden boxes for individual growing plus shared soft fruit and herb boxes. There is also a kids area, biodiversity garden, potting shed, and composting boxes.

events

The Golden Baggers hold events throughout the year including:

  • Social Sundays on the first Sunday of each month from 10.30 am – come along to muck in with general tasks, share plants, seeds, produce, experience and knowledge with each other
  • London Open Gardens Weekend – opening the allotments to the public and running the community cafe each summer
  • seasonal events such as Harvest Celebration and Christmas festivities
  • annual trips open to all residents. These have included Turn End, Brogdale, Wakehurst and more…
