DESCRIPTION:meet @ Estate Office\, Great Arthur House\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn opportunity for women who live on the Golden Lane Estate to walk around the estate with City of London Police Officers and representatives from City of London Corporation Housing and Community Safety Team and share concerns about safety. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nbackground\n\n\n\nThe 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that starts on 25 November\, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women\, and runs until 10 December\, Human Rights Day.  It is aimed at encouraging individuals\, organisations and communities to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG). \n\n\n\nAs part of this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence\, the City of London Police and City of London Corporation are running a series of ‘Walk and Talks’ in the City of London. \n\n\n\nWomen visiting\, working or living in the City of London can ‘Walk and Talk’ with City of London Police officers and representatives from City of London Corporation to share their thoughts on safety and how to we can bring about a positive change. \n\n\n\nThose who take part in a ‘Walk and Talk’ can share their views and experiences with officers and staff as they walk through any areas they may feel vulnerable in. \n\n\n\nWe are running the following Walk and Talks during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence: \n\n\n\nOperation Reframe ‘Walk and Talk’When: 27 November at 6.30pmWhere: meet at the Night Safety Bus at Liverpool Street Station\, Liverpool Street London EC2M 7PPWho can join: this public ‘Walk and Talk’ is open to any women visiting\, working or living in the City of London \n\n\n\nAn opportunity for women visiting\, working or living in the City of London to ‘Walk and Talk’ with City of London Police Officers + representatives from City of London Corporation and share concerns about safety. There is no limit to the number of items we will accept. These items will be sorted and displayed ready for the ‘Take’ part of the day which will happen later\, where you are welcome to select items you’d like to bring home with you. There is no limit on the number of items you can take home\, but we ask that people take only what they need so that others in the community get a chance to participate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngive\n\n\n\nDonate your pre-loved items in a good\, reusable condition\, including: Clothes and shoes | Toys | Kitchenware | Bric-a-brac | Books | DVDs | Electrical items \n\n\n\nWe can’t accept donations after 12pm\, so please arrive between 10am-12pm to donate your items. We’d love to hear from you about how we can reduce waste\, share tools\, and support repair in our neighbourhoods. \n\n\n\nWe know that managing waste\, accessing tools\, and getting repairs done can be challenging\, and we believe the best solutions come from the people who experience these challenges every day. That’s why the City of London\, together with local residents\, and design researchers from Stby\, is launching a Library of Things this Spring: an easy\, affordable way to access tools and equipment rather than buying new. Do come along and vote for your favourite. \n\n\n\nThe small Committee is supported by a few volunteers who “make things happen” in the allotments. We really need more of us to step up and do this! We’re talking an hour or two here and there\, or organising one thing over the whole year\, vs a solid regular commitment. For example\, we didn’t have a trip in 2025\, or an Autumn social\, or a Christmas tree\, mainly because we didn’t have anyone to organise it. These are the kind of one off events we’d love to see someone stick their hand up to make happen. \n\n\n\nPaving stones replacement in FebruaryAs many of you know\, the paths in the allotment are uneven. As part of the works happening on the podium outside the allotment\, opposite Hatfield\, we expect to have the opportunity to partially resurface and deal with the worst affected areas.The podium contractors will be removing ~25 paving stones from the walkway alongside the children’s area and the potting shed. They will replace them with new ones and lay them evenly. We are negotiating with them to help us with other tasks elsewhere\, eg levelling the section near the gate which turns into a puddle. \n\n\n\nIt will mean some disruption for a week or so from 9 February. We are discussing the details with the project manager and will update when confirmed. \n\n\n\nDo come along to the AGM and join the discussion! \n\n\n\nSee you there\,Baggers Committee
