SUMMARY:golden lane bike project
DESCRIPTION:Sir Ralph Perring Centre\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Cafe 2.00pmPresentation on the Golden Lane Bike Project 3.00pm \n\n\n\nIn response to the pandemic\, 2020 saw a major move towards encouraging cycling and walking in the City of London and across the capital. As an alternative to public transport and car use\, making the most of the fresh air suddenly became very attractive. \n\n\n\nA report Healthy and Safe summarised an initiative to encourage cycling on Golden Lane Estate. The publication brought together a survey of residents; an overview of current storage on the Estate; an analysis of places to build new cycle storage; and suggestions for improved ways of creating safe and secure bicycle storage. \n\n\n\nResidents realised that encouraging people to walk and cycle was a good idea but a key aspect for making this happen was the provision of safe storage for cycles\, something sorely missing on the estate. Following publication of the report\, a grant application was made to the City of London Community Infrastructure Levy fund to encourage cycling; refurbish existing bike sheds; add new public bicycle racks and create a set of safe and secure places for cycle storage. The application was successful.Consultations have now taken place to establish the best approach to installing new equipment and improving existing facilities. Local residents and experts in consultation STBY\, led this process. The next step was the appointment of project managers to implement the plans. The project managers have had discussions with the police and with the planning department ahead of submission of a planning application. \n\n\n\nMORE ON THE BIKE PROJECT

SUMMARY:beech street zero emissions - drop in
DESCRIPTION:The City of London Corporation would like your views on the future of Beech Street. Between March 202 and September 2021\, we ran a traffic experiment on Beech Street to improve air quality. The experiment restricted polluting traffic from using Beech Street as ‘through route’ whilst still allowing access for zero emission capable vehicles and for any vehicle that was accessing a property on Beech Streey. Since the experiement was concluded most of the ttaffic has returned to Beech Street and nitrogen dioxide levels have risen. \n\n\n\nWe are now consulting on making similar permanent measures to improve air quality. \n\n\n\nThe Beech Street consultation will be open until 6 March 2023. \n\n\n\nTo view the proposals or take part in the consultation visit: www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/beech-street [no longer works] \n\n\n\nMORE INFO\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\ndrop in sessions\n\n\n\nWe will be hosting in-person sessions where you can discuss the schemes with a member of the project team. \n\n\n\nLower Ground Floor\, Golden Lane Community Centre \n\n\n\nMonday 23 January 7.00 pm – 9.00 pmTuesday 31 January 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm \n\n\n\nVibast Community Centre\, 167 Old Street EC1V 9NH \n\n\n\nWednesday 1 February 6pm – 7pmWednesday 8 February 7pm – 8pm

SUMMARY:BQA public meeting
DESCRIPTION:St Giles Church\, Barbican\n\n\n\nThe City is pressing ahead with plans to demolish Bastion House and the Museum of London\, despite irrefutable evidence that the buildings are structurally safe and that retrofitting the buildings will save thousands of tons of CO2.  \n\n\n\nThey intend to start demolishing the buildings this year. This is unacceptable and we must all do everything we can to prevent it.  \n\n\n\nCities around the world are recognising that retrofitting and re-purposing existing structures is a viable and sustainable policy and yet the City of London refuses to listen.  \n\n\n\nPlease come and hear the latest updates on our campaign and on the City’s determination to press ahead despite local opposition and expert advice to the contrary. We can stop this senseless scheme if we work together.
